Goody Home

Goody Home keeps track of the plumbing in your house so you don't have to. Take a picture of the label on your water heater, water softener, backflow preventer or water filter, and the app builds a maintenance schedule around it. Whatever needs attention next is right at the top, and when you finish a job, the app sets the next date for you.

How old is your water heater? Most people don't know, and it matters when you're deciding whether to repair one or replace it. Take a picture of the label and Goody Home works it out for you. It reads the serial number on A.O. Smith, Bradford White, Rheem and several other brands, or uses the build date if the label prints one. For many models, it'll also tell you how long the original warranty ran. And if you ever want to double-check, the app shows you where each answer came from.

Water heater recalls A recall notice is easy to miss, so Goody Home checks your model against the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall notices and shows you the notice if your model is on one. The list is kept on the phone, so the check works offline.

Your home maintenance schedule Each piece of equipment gets its own list of jobs, with a short note on why each one matters: • Tank water heater: flush the tank, check the anode rod, and test the temperature and pressure relief valve. • Tankless water heater: descale the heat exchanger and clean the inlet screen. • Water softener: check the salt, clean the brine tank, and have it serviced. • Backflow preventer: the yearly test by a licensed tester. • Water filter: change the cartridge on the schedule you choose.

Water softener salt reminders Tell the app how many people live in the house and when you last added salt, and it'll figure out when the brine tank needs a look. Your phone reminds you that day, so you don't have to keep checking.

Freeze warnings and frozen pipes Enter your ZIP code or town, and Goody Home checks the National Weather Service forecast for the next seven nights and tells you if a freeze is coming and how cold it'll get. Official freeze warnings show first, and you'll get a heads-up at 36° so there's time to get the hoses off. When a freeze is on the way, a checklist walks you through protecting your pipes, one step at a time.

Your privacy Goody Home doesn't need an account, doesn't show ads and never asks for your location. To get your forecast, it turns your ZIP code into map coordinates on your phone and sends only those to the National Weather Service. The label reader runs on your phone and never uploads your photo, though it does send Google basic diagnostics, like the app version and how long a read took. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you send it.

Forecast data comes from the National Weather Service (weather.gov). Goody Home is made by Goody Family Company LLC and is not affiliated with any government agency.
