Kids: a cheerful board with a friendly cat full of tips, streaks and XP — no rating, no puzzle clock. Parents can set a daily time limit. Your progress is always tracked quietly in the background, so you can switch any time.

LEARN THE IDEA Every puzzle names its tactic — fork, pin, back-rank mate and dozens more — with one clear sentence on how it works.

DAILY SET Ten personal puzzles a day, from real games, tuned to your level and to the themes you find hardest.

TRAINING Pick a theme and practise it in short rounds of five.

PUZZLE RACE Solve as many puzzles as you can in 1, 2 or 3 minutes and beat your best.

PLAY THE COMPUTER Play a full game against the built-in engine at your level, with hints and take-backs. Or play Chess960 (Fischer Random) from a random or chosen start, with its own Elo; with friends from a random start.

PLAY PEOPLE Over Game Center, with a friend or a random opponent: • Live game: real-time chess with a clock — bullet, blitz or rapid, from 1+0 to 15+10, with a rematch afterwards. • Correspondence: a real game with 1 to 14 days per move. • Puzzle duel: the same 10 puzzles for both of you; most solved wins.

LEARN Step-by-step lessons on the pieces, the rules, tactics and openings, ten exercises each, plus 21 endgame lessons from the basic mates to the Lucena and Vancura positions, and fun games like Knight's path and Pawn Wars. A searchable glossary explains 80 chess terms. The opening book holds every ECO opening, and you can play your own moves in it. What you learned comes back now and then, so it sticks.
