Plan a direct-light layout from your IES files, with calculations you can take away.
Lunacand combines source inspection, fixture placement and a reproducible handoff in one offline workspace. Import a supported manufacturer IES distribution, arrange downward-facing fixtures above a rectangular horizontal plane, then inspect calculated direct illuminance in lux.
YOUR DISTRIBUTIONS, IN CONTEXT Keep original IES bytes with each plan. Inspect source identification, C0/180 and C90/270 polar traces, angular counts, peak candela and a source fingerprint. No bundled manufacturer library or account is required. An original analytic study is included to learn the controls.
PRECISE LAYOUT EDITING Arrange up to 12 fixtures using up to 8 IES sources per plan. Edit X/Y position, height above the plane, counterclockwise rotation, output fraction and enabled state. Use sliders for exploration and numeric entry for exact values. The field updates with the layout. On iPad, a wide workspace keeps the inspector alongside the plane.
SEE THE NUMBERS Inspect a 21 × 21 grid of cell-centre samples, selected-point lux, sampled mean, minimum, maximum and minimum-to-mean ratio. A numeric list exposes all 441 values, including points that a colour map alone could hide.
A COMPLETE LOCAL HANDOFF Preview a PDF with the layout, fixtures and project notes. Share a ZIP containing the PDF, plane SVG, point and fixture CSVs, byte-exact IES originals, source checksums, assumptions and a restorable plan JSON. Save up to 20 plans within a 96 MiB local library, rename or duplicate them, and restore exported JSON backups through Files.
ONE PURCHASE No subscriptions, advertisements, sign-in, analytics or app network requests. Files and plans remain on your device unless you deliberately export or share them. Deleting the app removes its local library; keep exported backups.
SUPPORTED SCOPE IESNA LM-63-1995/2002, Type C, TILT=NONE only. Vertical angles must start at 0 and end at 90 or 180 degrees. Horizontal coverage: a single 0-degree plane, or 0–90/180/360 degrees. Up to 2 MiB per IES and 361 × 721 angles. Rectangular plane dimensions 0.5–30 metres; mounting height above plane 0.5–20 metres.
CALCULATION LIMITS Direct-only point-source model with bilinear angular interpolation. Fixtures point straight down; rotation is around the vertical axis. No reflected light, obstructions or shadows, daylight, tilted aiming, glare/UGR, measured lux or compliance assessment. Grid summaries are sampled values, not continuous extrema. Use professional tools and qualified review when a project requires those models or certification.
