Sticta: Photo Wallpaper Maker

Sticta turns your own photos into your desktop wallpaper.

Pick a photo, and Sticta cuts out the person, pet or thing in it and turns it into a sticker. Place your stickers on a scene, style them, and set the result as your wallpaper with a single click. It's the trip you took, the people you love and the dog that won't sit still — every time you look at your Mac.

LET STICTA PICK THE PHOTOS Choose a period — the last 30 days, a month, a year, your own dates — or one of your albums, and New from Photos builds a timeline or a travel map from your Photos library. Favourites, people and pets come first; bursts and near-duplicates are left out. Swap or remove any photo before the project is made, and click Refresh later to add the photos you've taken since.

SCENES • Travel map — a clean, generated map of the world, a continent or a single country. Stickers pin themselves to the countries where the photos were taken, using the location stored in the photo, and the countries you've visited light up. On a country map, show its states, provinces or regions and see which ones you've been to. • Timeline — stickers sort themselves by the date the photo was taken. Choose a year in photos, a month, a week, the seasons, a wall calendar, a film strip, a clothesline with pegs or a trip, on calendar paper, kraft, a chalkboard and more. • Fridge — a brushed-metal door with magnets holding your stickers in place. • Corkboard — stickers pushpinned slightly askew, scrapbook style. • Plain background — any colour, or a photo of your own filling the whole screen. • Clothesline — string one across any of these, in up to four rows: jute, baker's twine, fairy lights or wire. Stickers hang from wooden, plastic or heart pegs, or binder clips, in the colours you pick.

CUTOUTS YOU CAN FIX Automatic subject cutout gets you most of the way. When it doesn't, the erase and restore brush lets you take out a stray background chunk or bring back a lost ear — big strokes or fine edges.

MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE STICKERS A white outline, a soft shadow and an optional Polaroid frame, or the original photo with its own background. Magnets and pins can be moved and resized.

BUILT FOR THE DESKTOP • Previews show the Dock, the menu bar and your icons, so nothing important ends up hidden behind them. • Every display can show its own project, and each one is rendered at that screen's full resolution. • A sticker bank keeps every cutout you've made, ready to reuse in any project. • Undo and redo, alignment guides, snapping, arrow-key nudges and duplicate. • A menu bar icon for switching wallpapers quickly (you can turn it off).

BEYOND YOUR MAC • Export any project as a picture for a 4K or Full HD TV, or for printing, up to A3. • Add your wallpapers to a "Sticta" album in Photos and use it as your Apple TV screen saver.

YOUR PHOTOS STAY YOURS Sticta has no account, no analytics and never connects to the internet. Photos come in through the standard Open panel, drag and drop or, if you allow it, New from Photos, which looks through your library on your Mac. Cutouts are made on your Mac too. When you export to Photos, Sticta only adds pictures to its own album.

Your wallpaper changes only when you click "Set as Wallpaper". Never on its own.
