FizzleFoil

iCloud keeps your photos in sync, but it isn't a backup: delete something on one device and it's gone from all of them. FizzleFoil copies your photos, contacts and calendars onto a drive you plug into your iPhone or iPad, so you always have a copy of your own. No computer needed.

WHAT IT BACKS UP • Photos: every photo and video in full size, with your edits, Live Photos and RAW files. Your albums become folders. • Shared Albums, including ones other people share with you. • Contacts, as one standard file any contacts app can import. • Calendars and Reminders, as standard calendar files.

SIMPLE Plug in a USB-C drive (or use Apple's camera adapter on Lightning iPhones), choose it once, and tap Back Up Now. Later backups only copy what's new. You can switch to another app while it works, and a weekly reminder nudges you if it's been a while.

EVERY COPY CHECKED Each file is read back from the drive and compared before it counts as safe. "Check my backup" re-reads the whole backup and repairs anything a failing drive has damaged.

NOTHING THROWN AWAY FizzleFoil never changes or deletes anything in your Photos library. Changed or deleted items are set aside on the drive, never erased.

PUT PHOTOS BACK Restore missing photos straight into Photos, with their dates, places, albums and even editable edits. Nothing is doubled up.

READABLE ANYWHERE Your backup is ordinary files and folders that any computer can open.
