Umber - Film video camera

Umber is a film camera for iPhone.

The film look happens in the viewfinder, not in post. Point the camera. Pick a look from the film-box shelf. Record. The grain, the color grade, the halation, and the vignette are all applied live at up to 4K 30fps, using the same class of GPU-based color science professionals use in post-production. What you see is what you record.

EVERY FILM LOOK IS FREE Every hand-tuned look in Umber - warm color negative, saturated slide film, high-contrast black-and-white, moody tungsten cinema - comes with the free download. Full app. All resolutions up to 4K. Both cameras. Photo and video. The only thing that separates the free tier from Pro is a small "UMBER" mark on your exports.

Most film-look apps gate their best presets behind a paywall. Umber gates the watermark, not the looks.

NOT A FILTER. A LIVE CAMERA. Filter apps apply their look after you shoot - you record blind and hope the export looks right. Umber runs a full GPU-based film-simulation pipeline live during capture. The look you see is the look you record.

SHOOTS LIKE A CAMERA - Steady handheld video. Recordings are stabilized, while the viewfinder stays instant. - Tap to focus and expose. Drag up or down to set brightness, long-press to lock focus and exposure. - Volume buttons as a shutter. Press either one to take a photo or start and stop a recording. - More room to frame. Collapse the film-box shelf to a single line for a bigger viewfinder. - Quiet by design. Music pauses when you hit record, and the mic is only on while you're recording.

REAL FILM CHARACTER, NOT JUST A COLOR GRADE The look isn't a color LUT stapled onto your video. Umber recreates the physical character of film: - Physics-inspired grain. Three-octave fractional noise, chromatic, luma-modulated. Silver-halide grain peaks in mid-tones, the way it does on real film. - Halation. The reddish glow around bright edges that reads instantly as "shot on film" - threshold-driven and screen-blended into the frame. - Face-aware grain. On-device face detection quietly dials grain back in facial regions so people don't get sandpaper skin. No user action required.

Each look has its own tuning. Color negative grain is finer and warmer than slide-film grain. Black-and-white looks push halation less. Cinema looks lean into tungsten blues and warm highlights. Craft-work, not templates.

ONE-TIME PAYMENT. NO SUBSCRIPTION. NO ADS. EVER. Umber Pro is a single one-time in-app purchase. Buy once, own it forever. No monthly fee. No annual renewal. No ads at any tier. No cloud sync of your video. Nothing you shoot ever leaves your phone.

Pro unlocks: - Watermark-free exports. - Nine fine-tune sliders for per-look customization: grain intensity, grain size, grain response, grain chroma, halation strength, halation threshold, vignette, chromatic aberration, LUT blend. - Custom .cube LUT import. Bring any look you've built in DaVinci Resolve, Lightroom, VSCO, or wherever, and it sits on the shelf alongside the built-in looks.

FROM ONE INDIE DEVELOPER Umber is built by one person. Buying Pro is a kind way to say thanks and keep Umber in active development.
