En bref

Shabdle: Nepali Word Game is a daily word puzzle where every player gets the same Nepali word, played in aksharas (whole syllables) rather than single letters. It is aimed at people who read Nepali and want a word game built around Devanagari, with six tries per word and a built-in Devanagari keyboard. What stands out is that each tile is scored in two parts, so the consonant and vowel are judged separately, and the app works fully offline with no accounts or tracking.

À propos

शब्दले — one Nepali word a day.

Every day there is a new Nepali word, the same word for everyone. You have six tries to find it. After each guess the tiles tell you how close you were, and a result you can share as an emoji grid.

BUILT FOR DEVANAGARI, NOT BORROWED FROM ENGLISH

Shabdle is played in aksharas — whole syllables like सा, न्छे or ग — not in single letters. A tile holds one akshara, the way Nepali is actually read.

And each tile is scored in two halves: the consonant and the vowel are judged separately. So a guess can tell you "the consonant is right, the vowel is wrong" — the kind of hint that makes a syllable-based word game solvable instead of a coin toss. Under each letter, a small mark names the vowel being scored, written in its independent form: आ, इ, ए. A bare consonant carries the unwritten अ, and the mark says so out loud rather than leaving you to guess what turned green.

A DEVANAGARI KEYBOARD IS BUILT IN

No need to install a Nepali keyboard. Shabdle brings its own, with all 33 consonants, every vowel and every matra. Matra keys light up only when a consonant is waiting for one, so you always know what you can type next. Tap any letter you have already typed to go back and fix just that one.

WHAT IS IN IT

• A new word every day, shared by every player • Words of two, three or four aksharas • 418 levels to work through at your own pace, easiest first • About 31,000 Nepali words accepted as guesses • A word list of everything you have met • A hint after three guesses, if the day is not going your way • A reset, so a board you have tangled up is never a dead end • Hard mode: revealed hints must be reused in later guesses • Colour-blind palette with shape cues, so colour is never the only signal • Light and dark, following your phone • Streak, win rate and a guess-distribution chart • An optional daily reminder • Share your result as an emoji grid, without spoiling the answer

PRIVATE AND OFFLINE BY DESIGN

Shabdle works with no internet connection. There are no accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. Your streak and stats are stored on your iPhone and go nowhere else.

Free, with nothing to buy.
