Fernscout

Fernscout is a travel journal you keep on your own terms. Every day of a trip is a page: the photographs you took, where you were, how you got there, and a few words about it. The people you choose can read along while you are away, and everything stays in a folder you own.

Bring in a trip from your camera roll. The app hands over your original photographs, not copies, and reads the dates and places out of them, so a week of pictures becomes a week of days without any typing. You tell it what the pictures cannot: who was there, and what happened.

Or write as you go. Send a voice note or a message, and the journal writes the day up for you to check before anyone else sees it. Nothing is published until you say so.

Share it with the people it is for. Family and friends sign in with their email address and see the trips you have opened to them. Trips you keep private stay with the people you let in, and there is no feed to scroll.

Keep it. Your journal is plain files and photographs in a folder, on a server you can run yourself. Export it whole at any time. Order a photobook or a postcard when a trip deserves paper.

Start for free. A Trip pass (once, for 45 days) or Fernscout Plus (a yearly subscription) adds more days with the writing assistant, more room for photographs and postcards. Plus renews automatically each year at the price shown before you buy, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the year in your Apple account settings. The writing assistant and speech-to-text send only what you choose to them, and ask before the first time.

Route recording runs in the background only while you have it switched on for a trip; leaving it on uses more battery.
