About
A through-dovetail layout you can carry to the bench.
Tailnook helps hand-tool woodworkers arrange a tail board, adjust relative tail widths and produce useful marking files. Inspect the end-edge and baseline coordinates from a fixed left reference edge. Keep editable layouts for the next drawer, box or practice joint.
LAY OUT THE TAIL FACE • Equal, wider-center or alternating tails, plus individual relative-width adjustment and left-half mirroring. • Board width, mating-board thickness, narrow end pin and geometric slope presets. • Baseline-width validation before export. • Millimeters or decimal inches for inspection; stock entry and output coordinates use millimeters.
FIVE-FILE MARKING PACKET • Landscape A4 or US Letter PDF: coordinate overview plus numbered physical-size template tiles with 5 mm overlap and a 100 mm calibration bar. • SVG with physical millimeter dimensions and tail-face marking lines. • CSV with each tail's end and baseline left/right positions, width and neck. • Restorable JSON layout and printing Readme. • Native file preview, sharing and Save to Files.
KEEP YOUR WORK Up to 60 local layouts, including recoverable Trash. Rename, search and duplicate. Restore a Tailnook JSON backup as a new editable layout. Confirm permanent deletion from Trash to free a slot. Export backups outside the app before uninstalling; there is no cloud sync. An optional original drawer-side study is included; a new library begins empty.
PAY ONCE All tools included. No subscription, in-app purchase, ads, account, analytics or network requests. Layouts stay on your device unless you choose to share them.
CHECK THE SCOPE This is a through-dovetail TAIL-FACE marking tool. Transfer pin-board marks from your actual cut tails. It does not provide half-blind joints, router/CNC cutting files, kerf or fit compensation, strength advice or pin-board machining profiles.
Width 40–600 mm; mating thickness 3–50 mm; 1–12 tails; narrow end pins 1–20 mm; slope ratios 1:5, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8 and 1:10. End half pins are half the narrow end-pin width. Tail relative weights range from 0.25 to 4. Every baseline tail width must be at least 1 mm. Backups must be valid Tailnook JSON up to 512 KiB.
Print template pages at Actual Size 100%, disable Fit to Page and measure the 100 mm calibration bar before marking. The overview is not to scale. Verify SVG scaling in the receiving app. No guarantee of printer accuracy, physical fit or joint strength. Check your actual stock and use normal woodworking practices.
